Colorful Wellington

It rains and it snows, it’s cold and wet, and the skies are gray… No, I don’t have intention to write poetry ;) I only want to add some color to January.

Wellington boots

Wellington rubber boots were made some 150 years ago for farmers, and production was dramatically boosted with the advent of World War I. By the end of WW II in 1945, the Wellington had become popular among men, women and children for wet weather wear. Nowadays they are used in all forms of industry. And much more important to us: they’re used as a fashion style.

You can buy them in almost every city in the world, or simply order them online. This is my pick:

Snuggie = Fuggly

We all have those days when we just want to snuggle under a blanket and do nothing. (nothing = left alone with our laptop) First couple of days after New Year’s Eve are perfect for that.
Thanks to Wynter Holden at PhoenixNewTimes blogs I’ve discovered Top 5 Geeky Fashion Trends of the Decade Some of those listed things, such as Crocs, I would never ever wear. But, hey, that’s just my personal opinion… ;)

Another listed thing is Snuggie. Wouldn’t mind having one… It’s cold outside, and all I wanna do after this Christmas/NewYear fuss is to stay in my room, on my couch, with a netbook in my lap, and with a nice, warm blanket… So, I think I’m getting one of those…
Company: Snuggie
Price: $ 19.95 (includes 2 snuggies)

Instead of official Snuggie commercial, I consider this one more geek-appropriate ;)

New Year’s Party

If you live in New Zealand, than you’re already celebrating New Year 2010. I’m in Europe (France) and I still didn’t have my last lunch in 2009 and the party is hours latter…

So, for those like me, who have yet to decide what to wear for the party, here are a few things which could be a great detail for your tonight’s outfit.

LED Binary Watch by ThinkGeek displays time in binary format and it uses LED lights to display the time. And, of course, it glows in the dark. More details here.
Company: ThinkGeek
Price: $69.99
LED Binary Watch

Binary and Super Mario manicure. For these “products” I do not know the price or where can you get it. Although, I’m sure that with a little bit of creativity you can do it yourself, or a friend could help you.

So, where ever you are, whether you’re going to party or not, whether you like holidays or not, I wish you a very happy New Year.

Rubik’s cube VS ugly sweater

What did you get for Christmas? Any ugly-patterned sweater from your old aunt? Hopefully, she’s going to forget what she gave you within few days, and you’ll be able to put it on e-bay. If you menage to sell it, you’ll have a few extra bucks, so why don’t spend it on something useful?
My pick of the day: Rubik’s cube. But not just some ordinary one: it’s a Rubik’s Cube Key Chain.

Little, cheep, sweet and useful.
It keeps hands and minds busy. It helps avoiding boring people at boring parties. You can put it in your pocket and play with it whenever you want, or need ;) And it’s a great geek-fashion detail.

Company: NewburyComics (amazon link)
Price: 3.99 $

Real geek chic or a fake one?

If you google “how to dress like a geek” you’ll get almost a million and half results. At first page you’ll get links such as
-Top 10 ways to dress like a geek
-How to dress geek chic
-How NOT to dress like a geek
and so on, and so on…

In fact, there’s only one rule :
If you’re not a geek – do NOT dress as one. ;)

Ok, you have a crush on that guy from 2nd floor, who keeps watching StarWars although you don’t really get what’s so interesting in watching re-runs. And you’re planing to buy him Wii for his birthday ’cause you think he’s probably broke since he’s playing something called “Commando” on some weired old keyboard attached to his TV.

Wearing fake, big glasses with black frames and colorful PVC bag that looks like a floppy disk is NOT transforming you into a geek chic. It’s not gonna help you get his attention. Buy him cake in a shape of C64 or a shirt, and first of all: LEARN what C64 is.
